Consilium by Justin “neo” Shockley

A larger part of me wonders what they think
I’ve never took a wooden canoe down that stream but
I once traded souls with a man who did
He told me a story of a woman he took the journey with
they paddled with desire
their strokes were short
after a while they’re motions didn’t cooperate
it took his mind to the beginning of the journey when they were young
she told him stories of how she visited that ocean
she talked as if she met the waves and stroked the wind with certainty
she seduced the man with tales and her beauty
what did she expect that he wouldn’t eventually notice?
the man memorized every current
she was swimming in his desire
this was nothing short of walking barefoot on splintered mirrors
but she lied to herself
and stole someone else’s current
leaving him confused
“you cant steal the wind” he said “so why did you try?”
“how could an entire ocean fit in a mans pocket?”
All she could say was “one look deceived me.”
Then they parted ways away from this river called consilium
he went his way
she went hers

This poem is dedicated to Davis! Happy Birthday Buddy! (dont worry she'll come just ride the current)
